Ten Thousand Teardrops 2

Ten Thousand Teardrops is an exploration of love, loss, and the delicate connections that hold us together. Using handmade pineapple fibre paper, cotton thread, and other fragile materials, I created an installation of twenty-four rings suspended from three connected twigs. Each ring’s worn, perforated surface suggests sadness and quiet, fading beauty.

The work is inspired by the Greek myth of Ariadne—a young princess who, guided by her heart, gave up everything for love. She helped her enemy’s son escape the labyrinth with a red string, only to be left behind, watching his ship disappear.

In Japanese folklore, the red string of fate also symbolizes invisible bonds that connect us beyond logic. I hope viewers find beauty in fragility, meaning in imperfection, and feel the silent threads that connect us all.

My Paper Creation at the Exhibition, Paper Alchemy

10 Thousand Teardrops is an exploration of love, loss, and the fragile connections that bind us. Using pineapple fibre pulp, cotton thread, and paper, I created a delicate installation of twelve rings suspended from intertwined twigs—each surface worn and perforated, giving a sense of weakness and sadness.

Inspired by the Greek myth of Ariadne, who gave Theseus a ball of red thread to navigate the labyrinth only to be abandoned by him, this piece reflects the moment she watches his ship disappear. The red thread, a symbol of destiny in Japanese folklore, resonates deeply with me. It represents both connection and separation, hope and despair.

Through intricate details and fragile materials, I invite viewers to see the beauty within imperfection, the strength in delicate things, and the threads—both seen and unseen—that weave our stories together.

at Kyushu Japanese Restaurant (9-11 Grosvenor St Neutral Bay. The restaurant opens 12noon till late on Tuesdays to Fridays. 12noon to 3pm on Saturdays. Close on Sundays & Mondays. The exhibition can be viewed during the restaurant’s opening hours.)

Sumi-e is the Japanese art of black ink drawings on thin Japanese papers.
Inks can’t be erased from the paper once you apply it and the rhythm of the strokes are very important as well as the colours and the sizes of the strokes.

Art installation at the beautiful Sydney Town Hall.
It was a part of Japanaroo+ Festive Season Concert installation.

It was a big sweaty day and fight against a clock, I was at the Town Hall from 8 am till 11 pm at night!
However, I really enjoyed being a part of the team and the venue was amazing. The concert with many talents was amazing.

I created some hand-made birds for the Lost Bird Found Project which is to raise awareness and spark conversations about mental health.

Japanaroo will take you on a short trip to Japan in Sydney.

The new Japanese project in Sydney will be on 20-29 August 2021!
I will run two origami workshops at Kintsugi Australia Studio in Sydney CBD.
There are many reasons to do origami. I often say that origami is yoga for your brains. A nice exercise is good for your healthy life.

I will collaborate with Kintsugi Australia and offer you the workshops. You can choose one of the dates listed below.

New venue for the “Virgin Vessels”

Group exhibition continues at North Sydney Council Chamber

When we were restricted to our homes, it was time for me to clean up in my studio.
Most of my schedule of the workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions were cancelled or postponed, I have plenty of time to relax and do my own projects.

One side is closed, then the other opportunity has arrived. 25 members of the Primrose Paper Art group were given the space to exhibit the collaboration work at Project 2060: Home Ward Bound at Coal Loader Centre, North Sydney. 25 of us had learnt to make vessels using paper handmade from recycled paper. The project was great for all the paper artists with all levels of expertise and who work in a variety of mediums, to learn a new form of paper expression.
It was a fun project & a big exhibition. (The report and photo was in my blog on March 2021)

After that, we moved to a new venue at InTransit Art Space, North Sydney Council Chambers
1st Floor, 200 Miller Street, North Sydney till 19 July 2021.
