Two Moons, by Midori Furze

Two Moons

Mixed media on canvas, 84x91cm Private collection

Circles drawn free hand. This is my response to an old Japanese poem by Nakamaro Abe. The poem was made 1,300 years ago and it was read outside of Japan.

天の原ふりさけみれば春日なる 三笠の山にいでし月かも (阿倍仲麻呂) I can see the moon in the big sky. Is it the same moon that raised from Mt Mikasa? (Translated by Midori.)

I drew a circle in one breath, then I drew another one. The first one is what I can see in the night sky in Sydney and the other one is seen by people in Japan.
