The king of Crete ordered Athens to send seven maidens and seven youths to be sacrificed to the Minotaur.  Athen’s prince, Theseus, joined the band and planned to kill the Minotaur.
Princess Ariadne of Crete fell in love with Theseus. Ariadne gave him a ball of red string, and he followed the string back to the entrance after he killed the Minotaur.
Ariadne cried when she found her red string wasn’t connected to Theseus.
