Fundraising for WIRES

Regeneration after the bushfires

Regenetaion 1-3
I am participating in the local art project and created 3 artworks.
The project has two keynotes. It is a fundraising project for WIRES. We had very bad bushfire season last time so we’d like to donate all the money raised from the project. Each panel will be sold for $20 each.
The panels have already the outline of the leaf on it and the artists have to use the shape.
So here it is. I’d like to tell you how I approach this project to create my work.
First of all, I thought about the theme, bushfires. I painted the burnt leaves in black with holes. Then I drew the red strings.  I like the story of the red string and I often paint them on my work. It is known as a romantic story but I also believe we are all connected.
I added some new green leaves on the red strings and I decided the titles, “Regeneration”
Regeneration 1,2 & 3
25.5×25.5cm each
Acrylic on cotton panels
$20 each
All money raised will be donated to WIRES.

Spread the love for origami

Attend the 60th birthday celebration for our Emperor
.

Honoured to be invited!

I am so delighted to receive the invitations each time from Consulate of Japan, Sydney for their functions since 2015.
To show my gratitude, I created an artwork with cranes to the birthday gift. And I wish our Emperor for his long & healthy life.

There are many important Japanese businesses in Sydney which have been contributed a lot to the economy. But the Consulate of Japan recognises my glass-root activities for origami. That’s a huge encouragement not only for me, but also all the enthusiasts for the Japanese culture without being in big organisations. We love our culture and we are working very hard in Sydney.

The word “Origami” came from Japanese word, but the origami is for everyone, not only for Japanese.
When I look around me, there are more non-Japanese origamists whom I really respect them and their works.
I will just do what I can do and spread the love of origami.
I also want to know what others do and we can connect and create origami future together.

Origami Koi Fish in Tonga

27-30 August 2019, I was invited by Japanese Embassy in Tonga and Japan Foundation, Sydney to run origami project / workshops in Tonga. It was a wonderful opportunity for me, so happy to be there.

Children’s happy faces were so beautiful. They were also very keen to learn origami!
I collected about 270 origami samurai helmets and made 2 Koinobori for Tonga.

The Koi Fish Kite (Koinobori) were presented to Tonga Red Cross and Japanese Embassy in Tonga.

Thank you, Miho and all the people in Tonga!!

Next destination, Tonga!

Origami, Soroban (Abacus) and rugby

I’m going to Tonga for the origami workshops!!

Recently, I have met Mr Hopoi Taione.
He is Tongan-born former rugby player for Japanese national team and a business man in Sydney.
He builts the connection between Tongan and Japan for a long time.

I went to see him because I wanted to learn more about Tonga. He is a funny and friendly giant.
He was chosen to go to Japan to learn Abacus. While he was in Uni, he became a rugby player.
He was the first non-Japanese player who played for Japanese national team.

I was invited to run the origami workshops there in August this year by the Japanese Embassy. and Japan Foundation , Sydney.
I am looking forward to meeting more Tongan people soon!

Consul general farewell

The consul-general of Japan in Sydney, Mr Takewaka was so wonderful, I wish he can stay in Sydney for many years.
I am sure many Sydney people have also missed him but we all wish him for his success in his next position, the ambassoder in Laos.

The photo was taken at the consul-general of Japan’s beautiful house.
It was nice taking photos with Mr & Mrs Takewaka, the violinist, Aiko Goto, the calligrapher, Ren Yano and I.

Dozen Roses and special knot

Give me a smile each time I see it.

Origami works

I hand painted with the traditional Japanese paints on Japanese washi paper.
Then folded origami roses one by one.
I added a knot with a red string – Double leaf knot is a very special knot which bring you a very good luck.

As a creator myself, I am so happy what I created.
Gives me a big smile each time I see the work.
